Abstract

A prerequisite of authenticity of Hadith is upon the narrator's strong memory. The significance of this condition may be understood from this fact that the two vital branches of Uloom ul Hadith are the 'Diversity in critical evaluation and dissemination of Hadith/ 'Ilm ul Jarah ul Taadeel' and the discipline of Weak narration of Hadith/ Ilm ul Alal ul Hadith revolve around the cited sole condition. The narrator's of Hadith especially the early critical narrator's had various means to verify the strong memory power of the narrator's. Most of these sources have become beyond the reach of the latter or contemporary Hadith scholars. This critical assessment of the narrators'memory power remains a privilege of the early Hadith scholars. However the latter and contemporary Hadith scholars may employ a very narrow or limited scrutiny of the narrators. This article attempts to discuss such modalities of scrutiny or resources as cited above.
